The European Federation of Nurses Associations (EFN)

The mission of EFN is to promote and protect nurses and the nursing profession with particular reference to the EU, by lobbying the European Institutions, like: the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe. The EFN provides a broad platform for developing health and social EU policy by supporting the European Union decision making process on all areas which affect the nursing profession. The EFN is strong on working towards a unified voice for nursing in the EU, promoting the value of nursing and strengthening the relationships between National Nursing Associations, specialist nurses and other health care professionals.

The International Council of Nurses (ICN)

is a federation of more than 130 national nurses associations (NNAs), representing the more than 20 million nurses worldwide. Founded in 1899, ICN is the world’s first and widest reaching international organisation for health professionals. Operated by nurses and leading nurses internationally, ICN works to ensure quality nursing care for all, sound health policies globally, the advancement of nursing knowledge, and the presence worldwide of a respected nursing profession and a competent and satisfied nursing workforce.

The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM)

supports, represents and works to strengthen professional associations of midwives throughout the world. There are currently 140 Members Associations, representing 121 countries across every continent. ICM is an accredited non-governmental organisation representing midwives and midwifery to organisations worldwide to achieve common goals in the care of mothers and newborns. ICM works closely with the WHO, UNFPA and other UN Agencies; global professional health care organisations including the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), the International Pediatric Association (IPA), the International Council of Nurses (ICN), non-governmental organisations; bilateral and civil society groups.

The European Midwives Association (EMA)

is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation of midwives, representing midwifery organisations and associations from the member states of the European Union (EU), members of the Council of Europe, the European Economic Area (EEA) and EU applicant countries.
