The first professional organization of nurses on the territory of present-day Slovenia was the Organization of Nursing School Graduates,
founded in Ljubljana on 27 November 1927. In 1951, the Organization changed its name to Nurses Society of Slovenia.
In 1963, the Society was reorganized to form Nurses Association of Slovenia (NAS), which was affilitaed to the Nurses Association of Yugoslavia.
On 15 December 1992, the Association assumed the role and functions of a national nursing and midwifery chamber and adopted its present name:
Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia.
